George Brown is the founder and Principal of Alexis George Wines. A family-owned California Wine company, established in 2013.

George is a native of South Philadelphia. Born to a young single mother and humble beginnings. His mother worked multiple jobs to raise him and his brother. It was out of a need to help his family, and a do whatever it takes work ethic, he inherited from his mom, that led George to start working in the restaurant industry as a busboy at the age of 15. While still in high school, George worked as a pot washer, dishwasher at a Philadelphia luxury hotel.

During his career in food and beverage, George has worked for some of the world’s great hotel brands and restaurants and is renowned for his passion for quality wines and food, and for his development and mentorship of people in leadership, and the wine and spirits industry. Along the way he has held a multitude of restaurant, beverage, and banquet management positions; as well as Regional Senior Director of Food & Beverage and General Manager positions in a multitude of great food and wine cities. He is also a sommelier.

Despite his passion for wine and food, spend any time with George and you will quickly understand his belief that mentorship and educational opportunities changed his life. He was fortunate to attend schools renowned for high standards and phenomenal student bodies; Julia R. Masterman, Central High School of Philadelphia (243) and Howard University. These educational opportunities broadened his vision of what he could achieve. Throughout his career it has been intentional mentors that have helped in his elevation. This fuels his passion today to create scholarships for children from those similar humble beginnings across the country, and focus on mentorship programs for elementary level youth. Education and mentorship changes families for generations. It is George’s belief that it is incumbent upon us all to reach back and lend our resources to aid the next generation through mentorship and education.
